Tully’s totalhealth Pharmacy, Castlerea
Within their local community, Tully’s totalhealth Pharmacy is known for providing a service customers and patients can reply on. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tully’s pharmacy took on the role of providing diagnositic screening, providing an injection service, cholesterol checks, blood pressure checks, blood glucose checks, measuring BMI, baby weight checks, ear and throat exams, ECG’s, weight management, smoking cessation, etc., which in turn took the pressure of the local GP’s to be able to care for their most vulnerable patients first. Superintendent Pharmacist Nial introduced these services at a time that GPs had enough on their plate, and patients found it hard to access some part of the health system which were deemed non-essential. All of their services provide better health to the community and better access to services. Through the refitting of their store they have been able to provide a more customer focused design and improved consultation rooms.
Meaghers Pharmacy Group
Meaghers Pharmacy Group has an extensive portfolio of services and initiatives to assist patients and customers in every aspect of self-care management. More recently, the team have joined forces with leading Consultant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist Professor Suzanne Norris, to run several successful liver scans clinics in a number of their pharmacies, the country’s only pharmacy-led Diabetes Liver Screen Initiative. As part of this initiative, type 2 diabetic patients were invited into Meaghers pharmacies for a free liver fibroscan with the aim of identifying those with liver fibrosis. The highly ambitious programme is the first trial of its type in Europe and from their patient cohort an astonishing 67% had abnormal scans. In March 2022 they partnered with a qualified physiotherapist to supply online pelvic training exercises to customers and will shortly be running in store pop-up clinics where our patients can come into the pharmacy to speak to an Expert Physiotherapist. The team are also in the process of establishing a pain clinic to help patients manage their pain.
Costigans Pharmacy, Tipperary
Despite already having already had a large instore vitamins and supplements service, pharmacist Siobhan Costigan and her team wanted to be able to develop an online product, one that was unique to the Irish market. A personalised pharmacist-led product that would encourage buy-in from the customer, improving health through better choice of product and better compliance. The service is provided by an online site called www.MyNutrients.ie. Customers take a quiz and based on their answers a combination of products is recommended. On payment the team sachet pack the products in daily doses and post directly to the customer. To decide on the best brands, strengths and combinations of vitamins and minerals, Siobhan worked closely with a pharmacist who is also a qualified herbalist. Using her training and Costigan’s combined experience over decades of work in community pharmacy they developed a set of questions designed to quantify the needs of the customer depending on their lifestyle and their general health.
