As we all know, the role of community pharmacists has greatly expanded over the last number of years; offering their communities essential services such as point-of-care testing, vaccinations and access to minor ailments and self-care education and advice.
For the Nenagh residents in Tipperary, Ray Walsh is a pharmacist that goes even further. Ray, of Ray Walsh Pharmacy, was put forward for the 2023 People’s Pharmacist Award by members of his community who feel their health, and lives, would simply not be the same without him care and support.
After one such customer had to give up their career in 2017 to look after elderly and unwell parents, Ray stepped up to the mantle.
They said, “Having to deal with a number of chronic conditions between both parents, such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD and colostomy, Ray offered tremendous support with information, exceptional service even up to staying back late to facilitate a meds pick up as I would get delayed with caring duties.
“He even delivered the medicines and incontinence supplies himself. Then in 2012 I ended up fostering my baby niece and nephew. Ray and all his staff were so supportive and gave amazing service, professionalism, and above all empathy. My caring duties have now ended but I could not have been able to get through those times without Ray Walsh and his staff. I cannot commend Ray Walsh enough for his help.”
