Migraine Ireland launch ‘You Are Not Alone’ Campaign for Brain Awareness Week 2022

Brain Awareness Week 2022 takes place from March 14th to 20th. The theme is Together We Are Stronger: Promoting the Value of Teams, Partnerships and Collaborations in Neurological Care and Research. In partnership with the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) for Brain Awareness Week 2022, Migraine Ireland will be sharing the results of their ‘Tell Us How You Feel’ survey as part of the official launch of their ‘You Are Not Alone’ campaign.

The ‘You Are Not Alone’ campaign and survey results reveal the starch reality of migraine as a condition from over 200 participants, digging deep into the mental health implications that exist with this complex neurological condition. Therefore, this campaign is vital for those living with migraine so they can feel less alone, more understood and so we as a nation can remove the phrase ‘It’s just a headache’ from our vocabulary. The #YANA campaign will launch on March 14th for #BrainAwarenessWeek2022. Some of results from the ‘Tell Us How You Feel’ survey are as follows:

When asked, how often does migraine affect your mental health? 38% said always, 53% said sometimes which means 91% of participants agreed migraine has a significant impact on their mental health.

When asked, in what ways does migraine affect your mental health? Most used words like its debilitating, makes me feel useless and unable to do anything, gets me down being in pain, anxious, frustrated, makes me feel lonely, misunderstood, sad, despair, depressed, affects my daily life, financial worries from missing or having to leave work and the list goes on. Many explained how isolating migraine is by having to cancel important life events, being alone and misunderstood or having to sit in darkness for days until migraine passes.

Universally and as a nation in our current climate, we can now resonate with feelings of isolation and loneliness due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, restrictions and time lost with loved ones. Therefore, Migraine Ireland ask you to help those with migraine feel less alone by supporting the #YOUARENOTALONE campaign and sharing it across your social media channels using the #YANA #BrainAwarenessWeek2022 and with loved ones living with migraine throughout Brain Awareness Week 2022 to show them, they are not alone!
