Finalists – JPA Brenson Lawlor Young Pharmacist of the Year Award

Finola Harte Lane, Tully’s totalhealth Pharmacy, Castlerea

Finola has given over 60 years of service to Tully’s totalhealth Pharmacy having started as a teenager for the present owners’ grandfather. Finola has worked through numerous shop refits, each time getting bigger and moving with the times. She has worked with and though numerous computer dispensing systems. The first being a small team from the
locality, and further with larger teams. She mastered each system and all the “improvements” and upgrades that came with it. She mastered a change from Qicsript to MPS a few years ago. Finola leads the way with IT training and wondering what else it could do for her.

Helay Sultan, Pharmacy O’Reilly, Dublin

Helay began working with Pharmacy O’Reilly in 2021, just weeks after arriving in Ireland as a refugee. She speaks English, Pashto, Urdu, Persian, Turkish (and is currently learning Irish) as a result, new non-English speaking patients have better opportunities to access healthcare. She has taken on the role of the technician/translator and has shown an increase in business growth through this new custom.

Helay acts as a conduit to the local GP for refugees. She has made links with the Irish Refugee Council and from this has signposted patients to the pharmacy and other services. Helay has suffered enormous trauma in 2021. She had to escape the Taliban whilst under death threat. This has never affected her ability to arrive to work every day with enthusiasm and passion. She deserves a successful career in pharmacy.

Denise Donohue, Tony Walsh Allcare Pharmacy, Dublin

Denise has been working in Tony Walsh Allcare Pharmacy for an impressive 23 years as an OTC assistant. Her team describes her as an incredible lady who has made an extraordinary contribution to the pharmacy as a whole and the local community in Merrion Dublin 4. “Denise is the most diligent OTC assistant I have met over my 10 years working as a pharmacist. She is truly the face of our pharmacy and the person that each and every customer and patient recognise and has been significant in the retention of customers and growth of the business. It is absolutely true when I say customers come and ask for Denise because they are guaranteed to be given great care, listened to and the level of customer care and service she provides is second to none,” says her Supervising Pharmacist.

Kathleen Donnelly, Foster’s Pharmacy, Arvagh

Kathleen Donnelly is and has been a well-respected, kind and caring member of the Arva community for over 46 years. She goes out of her way to source items for customers and is always very determined not to let anyone down which in turn means she exhausts every avenue until she succeeds. Kathleen has acted as a mentor and a superb role-model for
many young pre-registrations pharmacists who have come through the doors at Foster’s Pharmacy. She has proved to be all of her employers most valuable asset and has served each with the highest degree of loyalty and dedication, this being one of the main reason why our business began to thrive and still thrives today.

Claire Tierney, Keane’s CarePlus Pharmacy, Enfield

Claire Tierney has worked as a counter assistant for over 16 years in Enfield, almost 7 of which were with the Keane’s CarePlus Group. Claire became the front of shop supervisor as her result of her high service levels and dedication to the pharmacy. This is evident from her hard work and commitment over the years. As a result of the high service levels, Claire has built a fantastic rapport with the customers within the community. She was served them over the 16 years and has seen babies grow into young adults.

When the Keane’s Group took over from the previous owners and transitioned to the CarePlus model, Claire was instrumental in the change. With the transition, came significant change. Claire spearheaded the change in store layout, products stocked and communicated with suppliers to ensure that the transition was as smooth as possible.

Siobhan Lillis, McCabes Pharmacy, Sword

Siobhan shows a passion for patient care. She started her training on the McCabes online portal, learning as much as she could to enable her to ensure she could give the best advise possible. McCabes Pharmacy training ranges from bronze level experience to gold level, Siobhan is now a gold level sales advisor. What stands out is how quickly she became the backbone of her OTC team. Since joining she has built up good, trusting relationships with customers which has led them to come into store looking for her assistance, as previous experiences they have had have been memorable as she greets everyone like one of the family which eases the customer when they may have a sensitive topic to ask on. She has adapted to any role required of her and no task is ever too much. Her customer care is second to none and her compassion and kindness always shines through in her demeaner no matter what. She implements “The McCabes Way” with each customer.
