CAREPLUS PHARMACY STEPS UP TO COMBAT PERIOD POVERTY

Nationwide pharmacy network joins movement offering free products to women and girls

CarePlus Pharmacy today became the first retail pharmacy network in Ireland to join the movement to end period poverty. The brand’s outlets across the country are now offering free tampons or sanitary pads to women and girls to help ensure no-one has to worry about affording these essential items as they go about their daily lives.

CarePlus Pharmacy has positioned itself at the heart of communities across Ireland since its first outlet opened in 2017. From now on, an important feature of that community pharmacy role will include ensuring women and girls have access to suitable period products.

Pharmacy staff already provide support and advice for customers in understanding their menstrual healthcare needs and today’s announcement will supplement that approach. The decision to offer the service was inspired by the steps taken by Lidl Ireland in recent days to provide a similar service.

Director of Marketing at CarePlus Pharmacy, Lee-Ann Hyland says it’s a logical step forward for the company: “At CarePlus Pharmacy we’re proud to join with other brands in this movement towards open conversations on women’s health and breaking down the barriers that can be put in the way of adequate care”.

Claire Hunt from Homeless Period Ireland says “We strongly welcome this news from CarePlus Pharmacy as they join our campaign to end period poverty. A local pharmacy can be a great source of support to women in coping with their menstrual cycle and knowing they acknowledge the reality of period poverty is so reassuring. We look forward to seeing more brands in Ireland following this example and helping women across Ireland”.

Full details on how to avail of free period products can be found online at careplus.ie.
