COVID-19 vaccination now available for women at any stage of pregnancy

WOMEN at all stages of pregnancy can now avail of a Covid-19 vaccine at their nearest centre, following national guidance.

Pregnant women will be offered a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and can now attend for vaccination at any stage of pregnancy, following the recent NIAC recommendation.

The HSE is encouraging pregnant women to take up the COVID-19 vaccine when it is offered, following a discussion with their midwife, GP or obstetrician.

Dr Deirdre Grady, Medical Lead for the Vaccination Programme for the West and North West is urging all pregnant women to avail of the vaccine.

“I would encourage women at all stages of pregnancy to protect themselves from the Covid-19 virus by getting the vaccine. All the evidence shows that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and this is an opportunity for all women, no matter where they are on their pregnancy journey, to protect themselves and their babies.”

Dr Grady urged all women to discuss Covid-19 and the vaccine and take up the offer of the vaccine at their earliest opportunity.

“Speak to your obstetrician, midwife or GP about the vaccine. Women can attend for a vaccine at walk-in vaccinations centres right around the region or by booking through the portal.”

Factual and updated information on the COVID-19 vaccine is available on the HSE website. The HSE encourages all women to read the information, and to discuss vaccination with their obstetric caregiver. If you have discussed it with your healthcare team, you can register online for a vaccination appointment or go to a walk-in vaccination clinic.

Timings in the designated vaccination centres will vary across the region. For more information on going to a walk-in vaccination clinic, see the HSE website.

What to bring

Everyone attending a walk-in clinic should bring photo ID. If your photo ID does not have your date of birth on it, you should also bring a copy of your birth cert or some other documentation that has your date of birth. Attendees should also wear a face covering and something that will make it easy to get the vaccine in their upper arm, like a short sleeved t-shirt.

Getting your second dose?

You can go to any dose 2 walk-in clinic as long as your vaccination is due and you have proof of your first dose. For example, your vaccination record card. It does not matter where you had your first dose – even if you were vaccinated at a GP, pharmacy or in another country.

You will not be vaccinated at a dose 2 clinic if you do not have proof of your first dose. If you lost your vaccination record card, go back to the GP or pharmacy where you got your first dose to get proof of vaccination.
